FAQs

Is this course right for me?

This course is suitable for anyone who has never done yoga or is relatively new to yoga. Perhaps you used to practice but it's been a while since you did regularly so you’re looking for a refresher. We’ll be covering the basics so you master the foundational techniques and start to experience the benefits of yoga for yourself!

And if you’re questioning whether you’re too unfit / old / stiff to do yoga… you are exactly the kind of person that yoga can help the most! This course really is for anyone as we offer different options so you can find positions that feel really good for your body. In our classes you'll find all ages, shapes and sizes - all are welcome here :)

What's the time commitment?

This is a 4 week course with a weekly 60 minute class (9-10am on Saturdays). The first session is slightly longer (75 mins) to cover a short introduction to yoga before you get moving on your mat! If you can’t make a class or two don’t worry - all classes will be recorded and you get lifetime access!

What's possible when you join the course?

Starting yoga is exciting and challenging.

Most people start yoga to tone up or become more flexible, and you will certainly find that you quickly notice the difference in both your strength and flexibility – no matter your starting point!

However, yoga is so much more than physical movement… you'll also discover ways to clear your mind, relax and destress, boost your focus and concentration and most people say that they sleep better after classes!

You will begin to feel the benefits of yoga as early as week 1 :)

Do I need any equipment?

We recommend buying a yoga mat for your practice - it’s not essential as you can use a “non-yoga” mat or an old towel as a substitute for the first class or two but this is the one thing I would buy within the first couple of weeks of the course if you don't have one. We think the best style for beginners is a "sticky" mat as it will help your grip. Here’s a good option that we use in our in-person classes: Yoga Matters Sticky Mat

Other yoga equipment aka “props” is not required to complete the course, but we highly recommend using them to support your practice! We often showcase how to use props in our classes and suggest investing in a minimum of two blocks - the thicker "brick" style rather than the thinner version. (Can be substituted with a couple of thick books, or board game boxes for your first couple of classes). Good option here: Yoga Matters Yoga Bricks

You may also wish to purchase a yoga strap but we suggest starting with a dressing gown cord or old tie/belt and then buying this when you need one!

We also recommend have a cushion or two and a blanket handy (these don’t need to be special – whatever you’ve got lying around at home!)

For some of our practices including Week 1's class you will need a chair or something of equivalent height that you can put your weight on.

What do I wear?

Please wear comfortable clothes that allow you to move freely. Many people choose to wear gym wear but honestly you can wear whatever you feel most comfortable in – even pjs!

We practice yoga with bare feet so no need to worry about your shoes!
