Summer in Hitchin is always something special, and 2025 is shaping up to be no exception. Whether you're into live music, local festivals, or mindful escapes, there’s something for everyone.

Here are some of the best ways to soak up the sunshine this season:

  1. 🍻 Cider & Cheese Festival (4th-5th July 2025)

Hosted at Hitchin Town Football Club, this quirky event is back for another year featuring a wide selection of ciders (including low and alcohol-free offerings) plus cheese, pork pies and scotch eggs. Why not spend the afternoon with friends and have a bit of a tasting?

2. ☀️ Mother Nature: Outdoor Art Trail (14th June-31st July)

The Living Theatre are back with another “living art” trail, an opportunity to explore sculptures, installations and more from local artists. This year’s theme is “Mother Nature” and the focus is climate change and local biodiversity.

3. 🥡 Hitchin Street Food (3rd July)

This street-food focused event takes place 3-9pm on a handful of Thursday evenings this summer. Taste different cuisines from across the world, listen to live music and indulge in a tipple or two at the Hitchin Riverside. Find out more

4. 🌳 Hitchin Festival (July 2025)

Every year Hitchin hosts a festival full of events to promote culture and entertainment throughout Hitchin. There’s concerts, poetry, theatre, as well as plenty of local clubs putting on something special for the occasion!

5. 🏊 Hitchin Lido (All Summer Long!)

Cool off at this art deco gem, open since 1938. With a 50m heated pool, sunbathing terraces, and a family-friendly vibe, it’s a nostalgic summer staple.

I got into swimming at the lido last summer and am excited for it to reopen again - it’s open from 10th May for a cold water trial and then will be properly heated from May half term (I’m waiting until then!)

6. 🎪 Great British Food Festival - Knebworth House (5th + 6th July 2025)

Back for it’s eighth year at Knebworth House, this festival is foodie heaven! Combining the finest local and regional artisan producers, sizzling street food stalls, top chefs live on stage, delectable bars, craft and gift stalls, children’s entertainment, foraging walks, all set to the soundtrack of fantastic live music in the beautiful grounds of Knebworth House… what’s not to like!

7. 🎻 Folk by the Oak, Hatfield Park (20th July 2025)

Returning to Hatfield Park for 2025, Folk by the Oak brings together a great line-up of folk and acoustic perfomers (including Bear’s Den and Fisherman’s Friends) alongside family activities, food and drink and crafts and stalls.

You can bring your own picnic and make a day of it - sounds fun to me!

8. 🛩️ Summer Air Show, Shuttleworth House (26th July)

Spend a summer’s evening at Shuttleworth House as they open their gates for a fun and relaxed family air show. At this family-friendly event you can make the most of free activities in the Discovery Zones and enjoy classic rides and attractions at the fun fair, plus enjoy a range of delicious food and drink.

Tickets are rather pricey at £36 per adult but kids are free!

9. 🏖️ Hitchin Beach (28th July-1st September 2025)

The Hitchin beach is back! If you can’t get to the seaside this summer, you can get some sand beneath your toes in the town centre. Bring your own buckets and spades, or relax in a deck chair and enjoy the buzzing atmosphere! No need to book – just turn up!

10. 🎶 Hitchin Priory Summer Series (28th–31st August 2025)

This open-air music festival returns with a stellar lineup:

  • 28 Aug: Nile Rodgers & CHIC, Heatwave, Crazy P (DJ)

  • 29 Aug: Jess Glynne

  • 30 Aug: The Wombats & Razorlight

  • 31 Aug: UB40 featuring Ali Campbell, Aswad, Don Letts & more

Set in the picturesque grounds of Hitchin Priory, it's the perfect way to cap off the summer.
