Top 10 Things To Do In Winter Near Hitchin 2025

We are officially in November and it’s time to get into the cozy and dare I say it festive spirit…. but it doesn’t mean you can’t leave the house!

Winter offers a whole host of new seasonal things to do, whether you’re in the mood for something christmassy, relaxing, adventurous or just generally wholesome, I’ve got you covered!

To inspire you to try something new locally to Hitchin without breaking the bank, here’s my top 10 fun days out in or near North Hertfordshire this Winter. There’s a mix of things you can do alone, with your friends and your family. Enjoy!

  1. Groundworks Sessions: Americana & Folk - Thursday 6th November

Groundworks are hosting their first sessions events with 3 American and Folk acts including Nell King, Althea Grace and Roisin McNeill.

Alongside the music there’ll be cocktails and craft beers. You can also grab a Cawsburger from next door for a discount and eat it in the venue!

2. Baldock Fireworks : Saturday 8th November

This is a well-loved family friendly event. This year’s community fireworks will be hosted at Hartsfield School. There will be plenty of entertainment, stalls, food vans, fairground rides and more!

Live music from 4.30 - 9.30pm with fireworks starting at approximately 6.30pm.

3. Wimpole Christmas Light Trail : Friday 21st November - Saturday 3rd January

Wimpole Hall’s annual Christmas Light Trail will be back with brand-new features for 2025.

Wander through beautiful light installations, get a glimpse of Father Christmas and enjoy delicious food and drink including hot dogs, churros, hot chocolate, greek street food, woodfired pizza and marshmallows.

Tickets can be bought for a specific times or you can purchase an anytime pass for a specific day (at a higher price!)

4. Adult Panto - Snow White (Market Theatre, Hitchin) : 20th - 29th November + 4th - 27th December

DEFINITELY NOT family friendly, the now infamous Hitchin adult panto is back!

I went last year, and it was definitely an “experience” I will not forget in a hurry… it’s clearly very popular as it’s running across a lot of dates - even into 2026!

If you like innuendo and panto humour then this might be up your street. Try to not sit at the front unless you are up for audience participation though…

5. A Christmas Carol : Friday 28th November - Tuesday 30th December

Following three successful years in St Albans, OVO’s smash-hit, critically acclaimed production of Charles Dickens’ Christmas classic returns by popular demand for a fourth season, this time at Hitchin’s British Schools Museum.

It’s a 60 minute “promenade” experience bringing to life the story for both children and adults through the grounds and inside the buildings of the British Schools Museum. There’s also mulled wine, hot chocolate and seasonal snacks available. It sounds interesting to me!

6. Robot’s Search For Snow (Broadway Gallery) : Friday 5th December - Sunday 21st December

Robot's Search for Snow is a ‘festive theatrical adventure’ featuring recognisable Letchworth landmarks including, Norton Common, the Pirate Ship and David's Bookshop! This family friendly show runs 3 times a day 10.30am, 1.30pm and 4.30pm.

After 3 sell out years at The Storeroom on The Wynd Robot has moved to a bigger venue for 2025. The show will be running at The Broadway Gallery and promises to be popular so book early to avoid disappointment.

7. Festive Wreath Making Workshop (Triangle Gardens) : Sunday 7th December

Fancy making a beautiful festive wreath for your door? This two hour workshop includes all wreath materials, tea/coffee and home-made mince pies.

All the wreath materials are provided, and are natural and sustainable. There is a morning and an afternoon workshop. Places are limited so book promptly!

8. Scrooge (Woodside Hall) : Thursday 11th - Sunday 14th December

Hitchin Thespians are running a musical production of the timeless Dicken’s classic. Step into the cobblestoned streets of Victorian London and enjoy a classic tale of redemption, belonging and the spirit of Christmas!

Tickets are just £18 (under 16 are £12) and you’ll get the opportunity to see local talent doing what they do best!

9. Farmers on Christmas Lights Tour -

Back for its 4th year Farmers on Christmas Lights Tour will be returning a few days before Christmas in aid Garden House Hospice Care.

This is a wonderful family friendly event with thousands of people on the streets cheering on the 150+ festively decorated tractors.

It’s free of charge to attend but all donations for Garden House Hospice will be greatly appreciated - they are hoping to raise £50,000 this year!

6pm - Baldock
6.45pm - Letchworth
7.30pm - Hitchin.

10. New Years Eve at The Anchor : Wednesday 31st December

The recently renovated local Hitchin pub is hosting a New Years Eve party this year. Enjoy live music, good food and welcoming vibes!

The party starts at 7.30pm and runs through to 1am. This is a ticketed event at £22.38 per person.
