You Don’t Need More Energy - You Need Better Energy
There’s a quiet pressure, isn’t there, to have more energy.
More motivation. More productivity. More momentum.
It shows up everywhere - in the way we talk about our days, our work, even how we move our bodies. The idea that if we just had more energy, everything would feel easier.
But often, that kind of energy comes at a cost.
It can feel like being slightly wired. Pushing through tiredness. Getting things done, but not really feeling present while you do them. And then struggling to properly switch off at the end of the day.
I am someone who can often “push through” and I’ve been reflecting on this. Perhaps the question isn’t how to have more energy. Perhaps it’s about the quality of the energy you have.
What does “better” energy feel like?
Better energy is quieter. It’s not the sudden burst that carries you through a long to-do list, only to leave you depleted afterwards. It’s something steadier than that.
A sense of feeling awake in your body.
Clear enough in your mind.
Present in what you’re doing.
Not overflowing with energy, but having enough.
Enough to move, to focus, to respond, to rest.
We’ll be exploring this in classes this month with the theme of “Vitality” for April 2026. Not something forced or created, but something that’s already there, when we give it a bit more space. Check out the upcoming classes here (and get your first class for free!)
Why it can feel hard to access
Modern life doesn’t really support this kind of energy.
There’s a constant stream of input… noise, screens, information, things to respond to. It’s easy to feel mentally full before the day has even properly begun.
And rest, when it does happen, isn’t always that restful. Sitting down with a phone or the television can feel like a break, but it doesn’t always restore us in the way we actually need.
Then if you’re anything like me then you may have a tendency to swing between extremes - doing very little when you’re tired, or pushing yourself hard when you feel you should be more energised.
Somewhere in the middle is where steadier energy tends to live.
A small shift in perspective
This is something I’ve been thinking about more recently, as I move into a slightly different season of life.
With entering motherhood energy feels… different. Less predictable, perhaps. And a bit more precious.
It’s made me more aware that it’s not about trying to get back to a certain level, or pushing to feel a particular way. It’s about noticing what’s there, and working with it more gently.
Some days that might mean moving more. Other days, it might mean doing less, but doing it with more awareness.
How yoga supports this
Yoga, at its core, isn’t about boosting energy. It’s about regulating it.
Through movement, we can gently wake the body up. It’s not about forcing it, but inviting it to engage and get the your blood pumping and your endorphins going to give you a boost.
Through breath, we can steady the nervous system, creating a sense of calm that still feels alert.
And through rest, we allow the body and mind to actually restore, rather than just pause.
Over time, this creates a different relationship with energy. One that feels more reliable, and less dependent on external factors.
A gentle invitation
You don’t need to have lots of energy. Just a willingness to notice what’s already there. Is it flat? Busy? Scattered? Calm?
And from there, consider what might support it, rather than pushing it…
Vitality isn’t something you have to create. It’s something that becomes more available when there’s a little less noise, a little less pressure, and a bit more attention.
If you’d like to explore this more, our April classes are centred around this idea of steady, sustainable energy. You’ll use movement, breath, and rest to support a greater sense of vitality, without forcing it.
